Introduction
Welcome to SimpliCut ("we," "our," or "us"). SimpliCut is a high-performance, offline-first mobile video editor engineered for Android devices.
We believe that your personal media — your family videos, creative projects, personal thoughts, and footage — should belong entirely to you. Our core architecture was purposefully built with an offline-first, privacy-first philosophy: video editing should never require uploading your private clips to the cloud.
This Privacy Policy explains how SimpliCut operates, how device permissions are utilized, and what third-party advertising services are integrated to keep SimpliCut free and accessible to all creators.
100% Local / On-Device Processing
All editing operations within SimpliCut are executed locally utilizing your device's native hardware:
- Video Trimming & Splicing: Processed on-device through AndroidX Media3 (Transformer and ExoPlayer).
- Crop & Horizon Leveling: Mathematical coordinate transforms rendered in real time on your phone's GPU via OpenGL surface textures.
- Privacy Masks (Mosaic & Gaussian Blur): Pixelation and box blur filters are computed and permanently burned into the video directly on your phone.
- Text Overlays & Audio Tracks: Composited and multiplexed into the output file using your phone's built-in MediaCodec hardware encoder.
- Video Export: Final video files (in Original, 1080p, or 720p resolutions) are compiled directly into your phone's internal storage and saved to your device Gallery.
Because of this design, SimpliCut functions completely in Airplane Mode without an active internet connection.
Information We Do Not Collect
Unlike conventional mobile editors, SimpliCut does not operate user accounts or cloud profiles. We do not collect, store, or process:
- Personal Identifiable Information (PII): We do not collect your name, email address, physical address, or phone number.
- Account Credentials: There are no usernames, passwords, or authentication tokens.
- Content Telemetry: We do not analyze, index, scan, or log the faces, locations, metadata, audio transcripts, or subjects contained in your videos.
- Contacts or Sensor Data: SimpliCut does not access your address book, GPS location, microphone, or camera.
Android Device Permissions Explained
SimpliCut requests only the minimum Android runtime permissions strictly necessary to perform offline video editing. Here is an exact breakdown of why each permission is required:
You have full control over these permissions. You can grant or revoke them at any time in your device'sSettings > Apps > SimpliCut > Permissions. Revoking media permissions will prevent SimpliCut from opening videos from your gallery, but will not affect any existing files.
Third-Party Services (Google AdMob)
To keep SimpliCut 100% free with unlimited exports, no subscription fees, and no watermarks, the app integratesGoogle AdMob (provided by Google LLC) to serve advertisements.
When AdMob displays advertisements, Google's Mobile Ads SDK may automatically collect and process certain device information, including:
- Device Identifiers: Such as the Google Advertising ID (GAID) or other pseudo-anonymous identifiers.
- IP Address: Used by Google to estimate coarse location (city/country level) for relevant ad serving and fraud detection.
- Ad Interaction Data: Information regarding ad impressions, clicks, and diagnostic metrics (such as crash logs or load latency).
Google's collection and processing of this data are governed by Google's Privacy Policy. For detailed information on how Google handles advertising data, please review:
- Google Privacy Policy (https://policies.google.com/privacy)
- How Google Uses Information from Sites or Apps That Use Their Services
How to opt out of personalized ads: You can reset or delete your Advertising ID on your Android device by going to:Settings > Google > Ads > Delete advertising ID (or Reset advertising ID).
Data Retention & Security
Because SimpliCut does not operate backend servers, we do not store, retain, or maintain backups of your media:
- Temporary Cache: While rendering an export, temporary frame data is stored in SimpliCut's secure internal cache directory (
context.cacheDir). This cache is inaccessible to other apps and is purged upon export completion or when you clear app data. - Exported Media: Exported videos are written directly to your device's local media storage via MediaStore and remain solely in your custody.
- App Deletion: Uninstalling SimpliCut permanently removes all internal project states and temporary cache from your device. Your previously exported videos in the Gallery will remain untouched.
Children's Privacy (COPPA Compliance)
SimpliCut is designed for general audiences and is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect, solicit, or maintain personally identifiable information from children under 13.
Because the app operates 100% on-device and does not require account creation, no personal data from any user — regardless of age — is gathered by the developer. If you believe that a child has provided us with personal information through support channels, please contact us immediately, and we will promptly remove such information.
User Rights & Data Control (GDPR / CCPA)
Under applicable privacy frameworks such as the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA / CPRA), users have specific rights regarding their personal data:
- Right of Access & Deletion: Since we do not collect or store your personal data on any server, there is no remote user profile to access or delete. You have complete control over all data on your physical device.
- Right to Restrict Processing: You can manage ad preferences, limit ad tracking, or reset your Google Advertising ID through your Android device settings.
- Right to Withdraw Consent: You can revoke device storage and media permissions at any time via Android settings.
